December 5th

Today is the big day for a lot of children in holland: 'Sinterklaas' a typical dutch tradition. At the moment I am working on character designs for the 2D animated feature 'trippel trappel' about this event. Although Sinterklaas will be leaving after tonight, I will be drawing him and his helpers for the following weeks... I hope to share more designs soon.

Happy 'pakjesavond' everyone!

Plein air

Plein air sketch of the koninginnebrug, Rotterdam. I don't think I have ever painted this fast to capture the quickly changing sunlight. I love this time of the day to paint, but time is very limited...

The Bliss bakery part 2

Detail of a new bookcover for the dutch sequel of 'the Bliss Bakery'. If you like funny magical adventurebooks, be sure to check these out! (Kathryn Littlewood, the Bliss Bakery)

Plein air sketch

I had a great time painting plein air with Arne yesterday.
The sun was setting fast, so we had only about an hour to do a little sketch. In this hour, the sunlight changed dramatically, so we had to make descisions really fast. Having limited time is always good to stay extra focused, and also I find the light and colors of a sunset very beautiful.
This is me and my primitive setup...

And this is Arne, who works a bit more sophisticated...

And his painting...

FNV Bondgenoten

FNV Bondgenoten demonstrates agains the expence cuts that were negotiated in the Kunduz agreement.
They kicked off their campaign with the animation : the social desert.
I had only four days to creat all the artwork for the animation. I had to study the style of Morris' Lucky Luke, to give the design a western touch. This was really a tough deadline, but given the circumstances, I think the clip turned out allright.
Animation was done by Hans Buying.

Sketch video

I've been receiving some requests to do another sketch video, so... here it is. Enjoy!

Life drawings

We had a double model at yesterdays life drawing session. Within the same amount of time, 5 or 10 minute poses, as we normally draw one model, one becomes extra focused and concentrated. The models were very expressive. Great session!
